Kids belong in nature. It’s where we play, feel, smell, touch, think, observe, reflect, and learn at our best. In the wild, our senses awaken. We are alert and connected to each other and the world around us. We are mindful, present, and full of love. We embrace our ever-changing environment. We overcome obstacles. We face fears. Our imaginations blossom. We create. We ask questions. We get a little messy. We are wild. We are inspired. We are all connected.
We advocate for our children’s birthright to have chunks of unstructured free play in Nature as part of there busy weekly schedules…
L.A. Nature Kids awakens the powerful connection to nature, each other, and ourselves that we are all born with. We offer a truly formative experience that children will carry with them far beyond the program. Adventures take place in a new location every day– the local mountains, forests, canyons, and beaches of Santa Monica and Malibu.

Nicole is an incredible teacher who started at LA NAture kids in 2004. Not only does she know her way around nature, she teaches the kids tools, tricks, and compassion when it comes to caring for the earth.
Shelayna is a Los Angeles native who grew up in Santa Monica. From a very young age she had an affinity for babies and young children and she began babysitting at age 11 (and continued though her 20’s). After high school she crossed the country to Attend NYU. New York would be the place where Shelayna officially began “teaching” when she took on a long term sub position at “University Plaza Nursery School”. All of Shelayna’s education in pedagogy comes from practice (her B.A. is in English)and she has worked at schools “traditional”, “progressive”, and “Reggio Emilia inspired”. After teaching for over 25 years Shelayna now likes to think of herself as more of a facilitator rather than a teacher. She has always known the intelligence of children and knows she is learning with and from them.
