LA Nature Kids, Nature School in Santa Monica
LA Nature Kids nature school offers children ages 3-12 years old the chance to explore their natural world while learning important life skills. We offer a variety of programs including preschool, after school and day camps. Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing environment where children learn to love and respect themselves and others, develop social skills, build confidence and self-esteem, and discover new ways to express themselves creatively.
LA Nature Kids, founded and guided by Christopher Pierre, was the first Forest School in Southern California. Following its successful launch, many additional Forest Schools were opened in the region under his guidance. By blending the expeditionary learning model into our nature school, we create an unparalleled learning experience. Our outdoor education programs offer a variety of activities including outdoor adventures, science experiments, botany, aboriginal skills, art projects, and, journaling. Children develop their social skills while interacting with peers and adults who share similar interests. They explore the natural world around them and gain knowledge about plants, animals, insects, weather patterns, seasons and geography. Unstructured free play is a cornerstone of all of our programs.

Our Chief & Teacher
Christopher Pierre was raised in Switzerland and has lived his adult life in between Switzerland, Tahiti and Los Angeles. He is a seasoned multi sport and adventure racer and has also been studying Aboriginal practices that incorporate a balance between nature and the human experience. He has 3 children of his own and speaks English, French, and German.
Expeditionary Learning
At La Nature Kids, we believe that learning should be active and fun through a connection with nature. That’s why we use expeditionary learning techniques in an outdoor classroom to teach kids about the environment around them. Expeditionary learning is a method of teaching that uses real-life experiences to engage students in meaningful activities. For instance, if you wanted a deeper understanding about the Santa Monica Mountains, you could hike and observe your natural surroundings. These types of hands-on experiences allow kids to really get a feel for what they are studying in a natural setting. They also give kids a chance to apply what they are learning in new situations.
We blend in the methodology of a Forest School. A Forest school is an outdoor education delivery model where students visit natural spaces to learn personal, social and technical skills through a strong relationship with nature. The benefits of Forest School outdoor educational programs are:
- Improve problem solving skills
- Enhance teamwork
- Develop leadership skills
- Understand natural environments
- Develop emotional skills, emotional intelligence and spirituality
- Provide an active, first-hand learning experience
Nature Preschool
La Nature Kids offers preschool classes that envelop both discovery and exploration. Our outdoor programs focus on developing skills such as creativity, communication, collaboration, cooperation, and critical thinking. Students also develop a deeper understanding of social skills, emotional development, and self-confidence by interacting with each other and exploring the outdoors together.
Day Camp in Santa Monica
We also offer a full day camp experience for kids ages 5-12 years old. Each day includes outdoor adventures, free play, and exploration in nature where the kids engage in exciting activities tailored for each day. We return in the afternoon where pick-up is at 4:30.
After School Program
In addition to our Nature Preschool, we offer after school programs for children ages 5-12 years old. Nature After School for kids offers nature educational programs. Our after-school program allows kids to continue their education in an outdoor environment after school hours. During the week, kids participate in a variety of outdoor classes including art projects, science experiments, primitive skills, story time, and unstructured free play.
